The Chad McCoy Memorial Foundation presented its third scholarship on Friday at Ozark Ridge Golf Course to a person that has followed in the footsteps of McCoy by walking the same grounds he used to on a daily basis.

Recent Poplar Bluff graduate Cameron Jackson was the recipient of the scholarship and will attend North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he’ll play golf for the Rams but also study business with the goal of one day working on the PGA Tour with a golf company.

“It means a lot,” Jackson said of receiving the scholarship.

While only picking up the game a couple of years ago from his older brother, Jackson has learned a lot and is excited to learn more.

Jackson is the third recipient of the honor as Alex Wiseman and Paul Innes were awarded the scholarship last year.

Chad’s father, Dennis McCoy, said his son enjoyed helping young golfers learn the game he loved so much.

“It means everything,” Dennis said of awarding Jackson the scholarship. “Somebody that needs it and has earned it. You know, there’s there’s lots of other things that you can can do that. But to see someone benefit from it like, like Alex and Paul last year, it really helps them and that’s what we get satisfaction from because Chad was always kind of an underdog and had to work hard for everything so we appreciate someone who goes out there and works hard like these boys have.”

When asked why they do the scholarship for their son and why they continue to do it, Dennis had a simple answer.

“To carry on his legacy.”
