The Central boys basketball team nearly pulled off an upset Friday night, falling 66-56 at De Soto.
The Dragons (24-2) are ranked No. 1 among small schools in the Post-Dispatch's top 10 poll. The game went back and forth throughout the second half, with Central building a seven-point lead early in the fourth quarter. De Soto shot 13 free throws late to clinch the win.
Ryan Delph led Central (17-8) with 14 points, and Jake Knepp and Eli Harris added 10 apiece.
"We came out and played extremely hard in a hostile environment,"Central coach Derek McCord.
DeSoto has not lost a home game at "The Pit" since the 2001-02 season opener against Central.
The Tigers outrebounded the Dragons 37-27 despite the presence of 6-foot-8 Tony Boyle and 6-foot-7 Anthony Thebeau.
