Hannah Kinder added to her collection of MVP awards from the City of Roses Invitational.

After sharing the award the past two years, she captured the Jeannette Miles Memorial MVP Award outright Saturday after winning two events with two meet records.

Kinder won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minutes, 54.29 seconds -- beating the meet record by more than a second -- and captured the 500 free in 5:08.82. The meet records in those events was set last year by Deanna Sorenson of Glendale.

Kinder, bound for Texas A&M, now owns City of Roses records in four events. She set marks in the 50 free and 100 free last year.

"It was so much fun to see the progress Hannah has made since she was a freshman," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "Coaches don't often get to coach an athlete like that. It's fun for the coaches, and it's fun for the other swimmers to see her swim. She definitely stood alone in the field."

Kinder led the Tigers to a seventh-place finish in the event-record 16-team field.

Glendale was first with 362 points, Parkway Central second with 261 and Mary Institute/Country Day School third with 253. Central scored 148.

Notre Dame was 10th with 112. St. Vincent scored 15 points and placed 15th.

Central had two relays finish in the top eight.

The eighth-place 200 medley relay unit of Mary Catherine Ford, Jessie Baker, Kinder and Annie Wolpers posted a time of 2:03.75 seconds, more than a second better than the foursome's best time and less than a second off the state cut.

Central freshman Susan Beth Scott was seventh in the 500 free and was 11th in the 200 free, closing to within two seconds of a state cut there.

"We also had some great swims from Annie, Jessie and Mary Catherine today," Powell said. "Our divers have picked up some difficult dives. Today, I saw some things I wanted to see in the team. We just haven't had a lot of meets like we normally do by this point, so we're just starting to come along as a team."

Girls swimming has made the switch from a spring to winter sport this school year, which has resulted in some weather-related cancellations.

Leading Notre Dame was sophomore Brittany Menz, who placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Lauren Castleman was third in the 100 free. The times for all three finishes were state-qualifying marks.

Powell said the bubble at Central Municipal Pool was filled with a standing-room crowd.

"It was crazy," she said. "We had a great meet. Our parents did a great job getting everything organized."
