Central's wrestling team wrapped up its most successful dual meet season since 1986 by rolling past host Marion (Ill.) 67-6 on Thursday.
Trever Duncan moved up a weight class to get one more dual meet regular-season win, and fellow senior Brandon Hinkle got a major decision in his final regular-season dual meet match.
The Tigers went from 3-7 in dual meets last season to 7-3 this year.
Central's junior varsity finished its season with a 21-0 win over Marion. The JV ended 4-6.
Girls' basketball
CENTRAL 38, DESOTO 23
Central, No. 7 in the SEMOTop 10 poll, won a low-scoring affair at home.
The Tigers (11-6) led 7-5 after the first quarter and 21-9 at halftime.
A pair of seniors led Central, which bounced back after a defeat on the road Monday against No. 3 TwinRivers. Alex Wieser had 16 points and Anna Brisso added 10.
Greenville 60, Woodland 38
Woodland fell behind 37-16 at halftime and couldn't recover in a home loss.
The Cardinals (6-8) were outscored 19-5 in the first quarter and just couldn't get anything going offensively. Sasha Hudson led the Cardinals with 14 points and Kandice Abner added 12.
Delta 66, Chaffee 51
Rebecca Cook had 25 points and Rebecca Below added 22 as Delta won at home.
The Bobcats (14-2) clung to a 28-27 halftime lead, but used a 19-12 third quarter to give them some breathing room.
Sarah M. Cook added 11 points for Delta. Mallory Kiefer led Chaffee with 18 points, Jennifer Vandeven had 16 and Natalie Townsend 10.
Boys' basketball
STODDARD COUNTY CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Bell City and Dexter breezed through their semifinal games to set up a No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup in today's 8:30 p.m. final at Bloomfield.
Bell City, the No. 2 seed, built a 50-27 halftime lead over No. 3 Advance and never looked back, winning 86-56.
Bell City (16-2) got 51 points from its dynamic duo of Dominitrix Johnson and Eric Henry. Henry scored a game-high 31 and Johnson had 20. Kenyon Wright added 17 points for Bell City. Jason Bahr led the Hornets with 17 points and Jared Ritter had 16.
Dexter, the top seed, won the first semifinal 86-59 over No. 4 Bloomfield. Dexter held a slim five point lead at halftime, but used a 28-point third quarter to blow the game wide open.
Chris Hyten led a group of four double-digit scorers for the Bearcats with 21 points. Willy Dooley and Derek Demaree both had 16, and Preston Clark added 12.
Meadow Heights 101, Kingston 65
Meadow Heights hit its first nine shots, including eight 3-pointers, and went on to rout visiting Kingston.
The Panthers (11-3) hit 16-of-33 3-pointers in a strong shooting performance overall. Meadow Heights jumped on Kingston to the tune of 35-5 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 64-26 by halftime.
The Panthers turned to their bench after halftime, posting 10 different names in the scoring column. Joey Bell led the way with 36 points, 34 coming in the first half. Terry Wagner had 17, Tyler Mungle added 12 and Matt Kite had 10.
Greenville 49, Chaffee 48
Chaffee lost a heartbreaker on the road. Greenville's Helm hit a game-winning bucket with three seconds left to lift his team.
Sam Burnett led Chaffee (1-11) with 19 points, James Reischman had 12 and Brent Thomason added 10.
Boys' swimming
NOTRE DAME 138, PRINCIPIA 38
Notre Dame took first place in every event in a strong showing at Principia.
John Fisher got individual wins in the 50 free and 100 fly. Jameson Kuper claimed first in the 200 IM and 100 back. John Stoverink once again won the diving event, as well as taking first in the 100 breast. Stephen Hine finished first in the 200 free, Chad McCormick took the 500 free and Jordan Kuper won the 100 free.
Other events
Saxony Lutheran's junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Oran 37-31. John Volkerding led Saxony (17-4) with 13 points. Ryan Bouge had 12 and Preston Shoemaker added 10 to lead Oran.
Central's ninth grade boys basketball team won its opening game at the Jackson Tournament, beating New Madrid County Central 62-57, with Jared Thomas leading the with 27. Central's eighth grade boys team lost its opening round game 45-29 to Sikeston.-- From staff reports
