ST. LOUIS -- The Cape Central wrestling team took third place Saturday in the De Soto Invitational.

The tournament, which originally was to feature eight team, was knocked down to a four-squad field. With several teams dropping out due to the weather, the scoring was changed and that hurt Central's chances for a title, said Central coach Josh Crowell.

"I thought we wrestled pretty well," Crowell said. "We're pretty tough in our middle weights. The way the tournament was scored for team competition, that put a hamper on us. If we had just had a full lineup this season, and in this tournament we would've been much better. The kids had their heads in the right place considering the snow storm and all that. A few exceeded my expectations and this will be a boost going into the district tournament."

O.J. Turner (171 pounds), Jamelle Austin (152), Josh Goodrich (145) and Leland Woelk (140) each took firsts. Earning second-place finishes were Paul York at 112 pounds, Trevor Duncan at 135 and Nick Harter at 160. Shannon Mungle (189) and Dustin Ingram (119) took thirds and Joey Carr took fourth at 103.
