Elliot Vance scored in the second minute of the second overtime to lift Notre Dame to a victory at Sikeston.

Jason Delgado helped set up the goal, accepting a pass at the near post and sending it to Vance about 10 yards from the far post. The right-footed senior curled a left-footed shot into the net for the decisive goal.

Nathan Kolda recorded the shutout for the Bulldogs (3-1), who host defending Class 1 state champion Whitfield at 7 tonight.

SOFTBALL Notre Dame 4, Central 1

Notre Dame beat its crosstown rival for the second time this season,

The Tigers kept this round between the two teams much more competitive, holding Notre Dame (9-0) scoreless through three innings. Bailey Reutzel broke the scoreless tie in the fourth with a bases-loaded two-run double. Notre Dame tacked two more runs on in the fifth with Reutzel and Heather Menz driving in the runs.

Miranda Schlosser's first start of the season nearly ended up in a shutout, but the Tigers (1-6) scored in the seventh. Schlosser allowed three hits, struck out four and walked three in a complete game.

VOLLEYBALL Bell City 25-25 Bernie 23-16

Visiting Bell City won for the fifth time in six matches by beating Bernie. Emily Burch had eight kills, Andreia Wondel added seven, and Katie Niemczyk had three kills and 19 digs.

JV -- Bell City won 25-12, 23-25, 25-14

Oak Ridge 27-25-25 Meadow Hts. 29-19-21

Oak Ridge picked up its first victory of the season with a three-set triumph at home.

Kelsey Schaper led the Blue Jays with 15 kills. Erin Hahs added 10 kills, Cynthia Volz had 28 assists, Hailey Ponder had 19 digs, and Cheryl Berkbigler had 15 digs.

JV -- Oak Ridge won 18-25, 25-21, 25-23

Other events

The Central freshman football team lost its opener 25-0 to Farmington on the road. The Tigers were led in tackles by Joey Uhls with Dereck Walker close behind. Central plays at home Tuesday against Perryville.

Chaffee's junior high football team opened its season with a 6-6 tie against Portageville. Aaron Horrell scored Chaffee's lone touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
