The Cape Central girls' swim team opened their season in exciting fashion Tuesday at the Central Pool with a 95-90 dual-meet win over Parkway Central.
Leading by only three points heading into the final event, Central needed a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay to claim the meet. The Lady Tigers got the win in an exciting final event with a state-qualifying time of 4:08.94. Members of the relay team are Elizabeth Green, Jennifer Freeze, Laura Dombrowski and Grace Freeman.
Central returns to action Friday at 5 p.m., when they host Parkway North.
Central's relay teams proved to be superior to Parkway Central's in two other relays. The 200 medley and freestyle teams both won. Members of the 200-medley, winning in a time of 2:07.10 were Green, Courtney Maguire, Freeze and Freeman. Members of the 200-freestyle team, which won with a time of 1:55.57, were Jean and Courtney Maguire, Marissa Tilley and Dombrowski.
Other individual winners with state-qualifying times were: Jean Maguire (200 freestyle, 2:05.54; 100 butterfly, 1:06.65) and Freeman (50 freestyle, 25:58; 500 freestyle, 5:36.16). Julia Lufcy won the diving competition with 166.25.
