Central's tough-luck season continued as the Tigers dropped their eighth one-run decision, this time 9-8 in nine innings Wednesday at state-ranked Francis Howell.

The Tigers (6-13) sent the contest into extra innings by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-8 tie. Howell (13-2) pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Central had 16 hits, led by a 5-for-5 performance from Brooks Osburn, who tied a school record with three doubles. Blake Smith and Garrett Stevens added two hits apiece for the Tigers.

Tyler Brandt allowed just one run in 3 1/3 innings, but took the loss.

Shae Simmons mowed them down and Ryan Modglin hit them hard as the Rams eased past the Blackcats.

Simmons pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing two hits.

Modglin, Jaris Hye and Jacob Campbell all homered, and each added two RBIs for the Rams (12-1). Modglin had three hits and Campbell two.

Jacob Bond hurled a four-hit shutout to lead the Hornets.

Bond went five innings, striking out eight batters and walking one.

Garret Mayo added a double and two RBIs, while Bond knocked in two runs for Advance (4-9).

The Wildcats exploded for 14 runs in the third inning to pull away from the host Bulldogs.

Dustin Thiele and Darren VanGennip homered for the Wildcats (6-5). John Bohnsack went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Justin Stotts added a double for Zalma.

Kasey Crowden and Bobbi Jo Schlick each scored a goal to lead the Indians on the road.

Jenni Tenholder added an assist for Jackson (12-2).

Central's Jack Connell fired a 39 to win medalist honors and help the Tigers cruise to a win at a quad-meet at Dalhousie Golf Club.
