The Central baseball team split a pair of games at Saturday's Heath High School Showcase in Paducah, Ky., beating Ballard (Ky.) Memorial 14-1 in five innings and losing to Heath 7-5.
Lance Young pitched all five innings against Ballard Memorial, allowing three hits while striking out six and walking two.
Against Heath, Central had six hits, including two by Brandon Cooper.

Advance opened defense of its Stoddard County Activities Association tournament title by routing Bloomfield 15-0 in three innings.
The top-seeded Hornets (6-1) will play at 4:30 p.m. Monday against either Bernie or Puxico in the tournament semifinals at Dexter. The finals also are Monday.
Angela Broshuis went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and six runs batted in.

Hannah Kinder had two second-place finishes, as Central was seventh out of 10 teams in the Parkway South Invitational. The Tigers scored 60 points. Lafayette won with 271.
Kinder was second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.25 seconds) and 100 freestyle (55.25). She also swam on the Tigers' 200 freestyle relay squad that was fourth (1:50.00). Other relay members were Joanna Taleno, Katie Bowles and Jessi Yarbro.
Central's Kevin Rohatgi lost in the championship match of the 12-man singles tournament.
