POPLAR BLUFF -- Sarah Miinch, Jessica McDonald and Tricia Klipfel each had two hits, a double and a run batted in and the Lady Tigers played brilliant defense to pick up a 7-0 SEMO Conference victory over Poplar Bluff Wednesday night.

Holly Schnurbusch picked up the win. She went all seven innings and allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

Alex Wieser also had two hits and Megan McDonald had a double and an RBI.

"Defensively, I couldn't be any more pleased," said Central coach Amy Blattel. "They attempted to bunt a lot and we did a great job."

Central, which pounded out 13 hits, improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the SEMO Conference.

The Lady Tigers' junior varsity won 6-1. Laura Beard was the winning pitcher.

Notre Dame 11,

Ste. Genevieve 3

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Ramona Blankenship struck out nine and allowed just four hits in leading Notre Dame to a victory.

"She pitched real well," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "It was good to see that. It was probably the best she pitched all year."

Meanwhile, Notre Dame's offense racked up 12 hits against a pitcher Janet said was one of the best in Southeast Missouri. Ste. Genevieve's hard-throwing Amy Sahnestock hadn't allowed more than four hits in a game before Notre Dame visited.

Tracy Kluesner led Notre Dame (7-3) with three hits, while Mika Williamson, Stacey Schwartz and Katlyn Kelly each had two. Williamson had three runs batted in.

Notre Dame's junior varsity won 17-2 to improve to 4-3 on the year.

Goreville 1, Jackson 0

GOREVILLE, Ill. -- Jackson managed just one hit in a pitchers' dual.

Jackson's Heather Tuschhoff suffered the loss. She allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Neither team committed an error.

Goreville got its lone run in the sixth inning. Jackson's only hit came off the bat of Lindsey Meyr.

"We hit the ball hard, but we hit it right at them," said Jackson coach Becky Riney. "Their second baseman made two nice plays that took hits away from us."

Jackson's junior varsity posted a 12-1 win behind the pitching of Kelly Riggs.

Perryville 13, St. Vincent 4

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Lady Pirates won the battle of Perryville, claiming an easy victory of their cross-town rivals.

Megan Narrow picked up the win for Perryville (5-1, 3-0 Jefferson County Conference). She went seven innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk.

Stephanie Schumer had two hits for Perryville, including a two-run triple. Narrow and Amanda Nuyt each had two hits, while Stacy Baer had a hit and two runs batted in.

"We played pretty well," said Perryville coach Lynn O'Neal. "We're getting better and we feel fortunate at being 5-1 right now."

For St. Vincent, Jean Brown hit a two-run double.

SEMO Conference tourney

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Jackson took first place in the SEMO Conference Tournament by knocking off New Madrid County Central 15-9 and 15-12 in the semifinals and Scott City 15-11 and 15-8 for the title.

Against New Madrid, Jenna Leet had seven aces, seven kills, 10 digs and four blocks, while Jennifer Mesey had 10 kills, 11 digs and three aces. Erin Hartman added four kills and six asists and Jessie Koeper had three kills, 11 asists and eight digs.

In the championship match, Mesey had eight kills, six digs and five blocks, while Leet had seven kills and 10 digs. Keoper had three kills, seven digs and eight assists. Kendra Hinkebein provided 11 digs and two aces, while Hartman had nine assists and seven digs.

Jackson improved to 3-1-1.

Sikeston defeated New Madrid 15-13, 15-7 in the third-place game and Scott City beat Sikeston 15-11, 4-15, 15-13 in the other semifinal match.

Woodland 15-15

Oran 11-12

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodland got five kills and eight assists from Danyel Farrell as the Lady Cardinals improved to 2-2-2 on the season.

Melinda Jackson and Karrie Filer each had three aces for Woodland.

"We're working on being consistent," said Woodland coach Emily Johnson. "We're trying to keep our momentum going throughout the game."

Woodland's junior varsity suffered a 15-4, 15-8 setback.

TENNIS

Kennett 7, Chaffee 2

KENNETT, Mo. -- Chaffee's Nicole Poe won a singles match, while Amanda Clark and Brittney Bennett won in doubles as the Lady Devils fell to Kennett.

Chaffee dropped to 0-2 on the season.

"We played a lot better today," said Chaffee coach Amanda Horrell. "We're young and we did a pretty good job today."
