ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central High's girls softball team banged out six hits in a six-run second in a 12-6 victory over Ursaline Academy Saturday.

The six-run outburst came right after Ursaline had scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. Ahead 7-3, Central added two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth for an 11-3 lead.

Jessica Keys pitched three innings and was credited with the win. She allowed four hits and three unearned runs. Kim Aslinger pitched the final four innings and notched the save.

Michele Lunsford led Central's 11-hit attack with four hits, including a double. She also added two stolen bases and an RBI. Erica McDonald added two hits.

Central (5-3) will visit Poplar Bluff on Wednesday.

In JV action, Central won 17-2.

Jackson wins three games

SULLIVAN -- Jackson's girls softball team picked up three victories Saturday with wins over St. Clair, Owensville and Sullivan.

Jackson defeated St. Clair 2-1 in nine innings. Staci Seabaugh picked up the win with a five-hitter and was aided by errorles defense. The Lady Indians won despite just two hits.

Jackson edged Owensville 2-1 behind the six-hit pitching of Christy Teets.

Dana Eakins and Megan Kuntze each had two of Jackson's seven hits.

Jackson finished the day with a 6-0 victory over Sullivan.

Teets threw a four-hitter. The Lady Indians had nine hits, including a double and triple from Melissa Palmer. Carolyn Harper added three hits and two RBIs.

Lady Indian catcher Amanda Bollinger threw out three baserunners in the game.

Tennis

Central places seventh

COLUMBIA -- Cape Central split its matches in the Grade A Tennis Tournament Saturday.

Host Columbia Rockbridge defeated Cape Central 7-2, but the Lady Tigers came back with a 5-4 win over Hayden-Topeka.

Cape Central (2-2) finished the tournament with a 1-2 record and placed seventh among the eight teams.

Central returns to action Tuesday when Charleston visits.

MARBLE HILL -- Puxico won the JV Tournament held at Woodland High School, defeating Leopold 4-15, 15-11, 15-11 in the title match.

Woodland won the consolation title 9-15, 15-12, 15-12.

Freshman football

Central 10, Marshal Co. 6

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. -- Cape Girardeau Central's freshmen Tiger football team got the season started right with a victory over Marshal County.

Bryan Emmendorfer's 31-yard field goal at the halftime horn gave the Tigers momentum and a 3-0 lead heading to the second half. Jeff Dunaway's 58-yard pass to Ishmael Blackmon on Central's first possession of the third quarter put the freshmen Tigers ahead 10-0.

Marshall County scored on 5-yard pass play late in the game, but it wasn't enough. Leading Central's defense were Zac Fidler (interception) and Joe Kinder (two fumble recoveries).

Cape hosts Carbondale (Ill.) Thursday.
