Central softball blanks Perryville in opener

Central senior pitcher Megan McDonald started off the softball season in style with a 12-strikeout performance against Perryville in a 7-0 home win Monday.

Playing on its new home field for the first time, Central jumped out in front with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Central's early lead was plenty for McDonald, who went all seven innings, walking one and giving up four hits.

Jessie Snell provided two of Central's five hits off of Perryville starter Kate Lowry. Snell and McDonald scored two runs apiece for Central. Lowry walked 10 and struck out eight in six innings for the Pirates.

GIRLS TENNIS

Farmington 6, Jackson 3

Jackson's lone returning varsity tennis player Kelly Mitchell scored a No. 1 singles win but couldn't push the Indians past Farmington in a home loss to begin the season.

Mitchell defeated Kate Karraker 8-2 and Megan Beil picked up an 8-5 win for Jackson's lone singles victories. The doubles team of Beil and Shannon Cobb won 8-4 for Jackson's other victory.

Jackson's junior varsity won 15-3.--From staff reports
