ANNA, Ill. -- Cape Central outdistanced all competitors in the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational cross country meet with wins in both the boys and girls divisions Thursday.

"Everybody on both varsity teams medaled for us," said Cape Central coach Mark Hahn .

The boys, in a 10-team field on a 2.7-mile course, scored 44 points led by the fifth-place finish of Josh Revelle in a time of 16 minutes, 49 seconds. Trevor Duncan finished sixth, followed by Alex Schneider (8th), Mike Gerber (10th), Alex Ramsey (14th) and Tyler Metzger (17th).

Murphysboro, Ill., took second in team scoring with 89 points, while Notre Dame was third with 99. Ryan Roggow led the Bulldogs with an 11th place finish.

In the girls' six-team field, on a 2.1-mile course, the Lady Tigers posted a winning total of 34.

Kim Pancoast led the Lady Tigers with a fourth-place finish (15:42), followed by Jennifer Pancoast (6th), Rachel Sprigg (7th), Whitney Pingel (8th), Holly Shaffer (9th), Cassie Kipper (10th) and Mallory Wilson (11th).

Murphysboro was second with 62 points.

CHESTER INVITATIONAL

CHESTER, Ill. -- Kelly took third in the 12-team boys division of the Chester Invitational.

Adam Daughhetee (7th) and Ashley Hahn (10th) led the Hawks, along with Adam Lofton (12th) and Lance Scheffer (20th) on the three-mile course.

Kelly had a team total of 73 points, while Sparta, Ill. claimed first place with 54. Perryville finished fourth with 90 points.

The Lady Hawks, on a 2.5-mile course, didn't fare as well, finishing eighth out of nine teams with 195 points.

Shannon Lawson had the best finish at 28th.

Freeburg, Ill. won the girls division with 49 points. Perryville placed sixth with 154.

BOYS SOCCER

NOTRE DAME 2, JACKSON 0

The Bulldogs scored on two set plays in the first half and that was the difference in an evenly played game at Notre Dame.

Shane Kistner scored on a free kick from Matt Pobst and Timmy Wencewicz scored on a long throw-in from Dustin Haupt.

Travis Siebert recorded his seventh shutout this season.

CAPE CENTRAL 4, POPLAR BLUFF 0

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Tigers posted their fifth straight shutout, knocking off the Mules in convincing fashion to improve to 13-3-1.

Jon Mark Thompson opened Central's scoring eight minutes into the game, depositing an assist from Cody Hill. The scored remained 1-0 at halftime and 11 minutes into the second half, Arthur Pilsner scored on an assist from Thompson.

At the game's 69-minute mark, Bryan Ross scored on a Grant Hengst assist. Ten minutes later, Jeff McCowan added a penalty kick.

Aaron Meystedt, who replaced the injured Trevor Blattner 4 1/2 games ago, posted the shutout in goal.

SOFTBALL

NOTRE DAME 2, GOREVILLE 0

Ramona Blankenship hurled a three-hit shutout as Notre Dame improved to 19-2 on the season.

Blankenship, who struck out one and walked one, received near flawless defense as the Lady Bulldogs committed just one error.

Laura Weissmueller drove in the winning run in the second inning with a double. Mika Williamson provided an insurance run in the third inning with an RBI single.

Softball

CAPE CENTRAL 4, EGYPTIAN, ILL. 0

The Lady Tigers vaulted above the .500 level for the first time this season with their second consectutive shutout win.

Holly Schnurbusch, the starter and winning pitcher, and Megan McDonald, in her first mound appearance since recovering from an injury, combined on a one-hitter.

Alex Wieser paced the eight-hit Lady Tiger offense with two hits.

SECKMAN 7, JACKSON 2

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Lady Indians dropped to 10-14 with the loss to Seckman.

Jackson took the early lead at 1-0, but Seckman reeled off three runs in the second inning and were never headed the remainder of the contest.

Heather Tuschoff, the losing hurler, went 6 2/3 innings and gave up five hits. She struck out two with four walks.

Megan Green had two of Jackson's four hits.

DELTA 7, SIKESTON 2

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Delta's Alexis Nussbaum went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in as the Lady Bobcats upped their record to 7-6.

Sarah Cook picked up the win in relief. She went 3 2/3 innings and allowed one run on one hit while striking out five.

Rebecca Below and Rebecca Cook each went 2-for-4.

NOTRE DAME 15-11-15

JACKSON 9-15-4

The Lady Bulldogs (16-5-1) topped Jackson (12-5-1) in three sets behind Deanna McCormick's best performance in her debut volleyball season.

McCormick had nine kills and 10 stuff blocks.

Ali Tyson had a huge night with three kills, six blocks, 11 digs and 45 assists. Jennifer VanGennip and Courtney Vickery had five kills each.

BELL CITY 15-15

SCOTT CITY 8-6

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Katie, Katie, Katie.

The three Katies led Bell City to a victory over the Lady Rams.

Katie Spears posted 13 kills and nine digs; Katie Niemczyk had seven kills and six digs; and Katie Goodman scored 10 points.

For Scott City (10-9-1), Amanda O'Brien had five kills.

ST. VINCENT 15-13-15

WINDSOR 5-15-10

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Beth Hennemann posted an eye-popping 23 kills and 17 digs to lead the Squaws past Windsor.

Chelsea Brown had an impressive night herself with 10 kills, 18 digs and three aces. Danielle Schremp added six kills and Dani Emmendorfer helped with 40 assists as St. Vincent improved to 4-10-1.

FESTUS 15-15 PERRYVILLE 2-10

FESTUS, Mo. -- Festus had little trouble in winning the Jefferson County Conference match.

Katie Kutz had four kills and six blocks for Perryville (7-9-1 overall, 3-2 conference). Rachel Wunderlich added three kills and two blocks.

BLOOMFIELD 16-10-15

WOODLAND 14-15-12

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodland dropped a tight match in three sets, falling to 6-11 on the season.

Kelly Reed led the way for the Lady Cardinals with nine kills while Emily Davis had six.

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leopold continued to roll with a convincing win over Oran.

The Lady Wildcats (13-2-1) were led by Holly Jansen with eight kills, while Courtney Wesbecher and Kyla Horrell had five each. Horrell, also, led the defensive effort with 10 digs. Setter Wendy Vandeven recorded 14 assists.

ZALMA, Mo. -- Zalma (8-8) dropped a three-set match to district rival Bernie.

MaryKay Hovis and Melissa Fish had 10 and nine kills, respectively, to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Cindy Hovis had nine digs, while Kacy Burchett set 19 assists.
