Central and Carbondale, Ill., will meet for the soccer championship of the Notre Dame Sportsfest after posting semifinal victories Friday. The title contest will be at 7 p.m. today.

Central knocked off Jackson 3-0, as Sam Bornstein scored two goals and Trenton Beckham added another.

Carbondale slipped past host Notre Dame 1-0. The Terriers scored their lone goal on a 25-yard free kick in the second half.

In the losers bracket, Sikeston defeated St. Pius 3-0, while Poplar Bluff beat Marion.

Jackson will play Notre Dame for third place at 5 p.m. today.

VOLLEYBALL Notre Dame Volleyballfest

Notre Dame (4-1) went 3-0 in pool play as the volleyball portion of the school's annual Sportsfest got underway.

The Bulldogs beat Perryville 25-14, 25-19. Leaders were Allison Essner (15 assists, 11 service points, three kills), Amber Karnes (12 assists, three kills) and Lauren Mehner (three kills, five digs).

Notre Dame then defeated St. Vincent 25-8, 25-19 behind Karnes (18 assists, four kills), Essner (15 assists, 10 points), Amanda Essner (four kills), Lauren Essner (seven points, two aces) and (Kelsey Scheeter (five digs).

The Bulldogs closed out the evening by beating St. Louis Trinity 25-22, 25-23. Leaders were Karnes (18 assists), Allison Essner (16 assists), Amanda Essner (four kills) and Mehner (nine points, 2 aces).

Pool play concludes this morning. The championship of bracket play is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Hornets (1-1) had strong play from Alicia Broshuis and Cassi Cooper, who both had eight kills and two aces. Kacie Ritter contributed 15 assists.GIRLS TENNIS

Central was swept by the defending Class 2 state champions at the prestigious Great 8 Tournament in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers did manage one junior varsity win. Singles
