SPRINGFIELD -- Cape Central's No. 1 doubles team of Lisa Ahstrom and Summer Chaudhari completed a successful tennis season by reaching the Class 4A consolation semifinals at the state tournament Saturday.
Playing indoors because of inclement weather, Ahstrom and Chaudhari were defeated by Joplin's Deepa Mangalet and Lissa Skelley 10-6. Mangalet and Skelley won their next match to claim fifth place. Ahstrom and Chadhari went 2-2 at the meet and finished 13-10 this season.
"We weren't overmatched," said Central coach Annette Slattery. "The ones they lost were really close. At times we got a little nervous, but overall I'm very proud of the girls."
Central's No. 2 team of Lara Golike and Rachelle Thomas lost another third-set tie-breaker to finish 0-2 at state and 15-4 overall. Golike and Thomas fell to a team from Park Hill 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5).
"Our No. 2 team lost two, tough, third-set tie-breakers," said Slattery. "With a little more luck, you don't know how they could have ended up. I think both of our teams had a real good showing."
Charleston's doubles team of Sayler Ault and Jenny O'Rourke also went winless in the 1A-3A tourney. The Charleston duo lost 7-5, 6-3 to a team from Principia to finish 0-2 at state and 16-6 overall.
In singles action, Charleston's Whitney Delay lost a consolation match to Kendra Martin of Nixa 6-2, 6-0. Delay 15-7 overall, went 0-2 at state.
Fredericktown's Erin Kinder had some success in the 1A-3A singles before falling in a consolation quarterfinal. Kinder beat Savannah's Sidsel Barkholt 6-2, 6-4 before losing to eventual fifth-place finisher Megan Bradley of Notre Dame de Sion 6-0, 6-1. Kinder finished the year with a 19-2 mark.

Mike Stone and Josh Miller both scored two goals for the Tigers in an easy home victory Saturday.
The win improved Central to 9-12-3 with a game at Notre Dame coming up Wednesday.
Central led 4-0 at halftime as Stone scored two goals and Miller and Ferguson added single tallies. Miller scored another goal to start the second half and Chris Cole and Andrew Christensen also found the back of the net in the rout.
Gaining assists for the Tigers were: Nathan Gibbar, Bryan Welker, Dave Prasanphanich and Justin McMullen with two.
Central's JV lost 2-0.
