ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central continued to fight an early-season scoring drought in the Francis Howell North Tournament this weekend.

The Tigers netted just one goal in two losses, then found the target three times in a 3-3 tie with Whitfield Academy.

Central (2-4-2) opened tournament play on Friday with a 2-1 loss to Quincy-Notre Dame. Nathan Gibbar accounted for the lone Tiger goal on an assist from Josh Ferguson.

On Saturday, Central outshot Washington 16-5, but saw the Bluejays net the game's lone goal.

Against Whitfield, Central saw Brad Gaydos, Ferguson and Gibbar for a 3-1 halftime lead. Gibbar assisted on both Gaydos' and Ferguson's goals while he deposited a penalty kick. But the only two second-half goals belonged to Whitfield, the latter coming when a Tiger player headed the ball into his own net with two minutes remaining.

The Tigers will visit Sikeston on Tuesday.

Jackson 1, Jibault (Ill.) 1

JIBAULT, Ill. -- Jackson's soccer team continued to have problems scoring Saturday, rallying for a tie in the second half.

The Indians (2-3-2) trailed 1-0 at the half before a goal by Nathan Windeknecht 13 minutes into the second half. Spencer Knowlan assisted on the goal.

Friday, the Indians were shutout at home by Carbondale, Ill., 1-0.

Carbondale got the shutout despite the fact Jackson outshot them 23-12.

"We're having trouble getting our shots in the back of the net," said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan.

Jackson host Secman Tuesday.

North County Tournament

BONNE TERRE -- The Jackson Lady Indians claimed second place in the 12-team North County volleyball tournament Saturday.

Jackson fell in the championship match to Ste. Genevieve 15-12, 15-9 to finish with a 2-1-2 tourney mark. The Lady Indians overall mark stands at 7-2-2.

The Lady Indians won their pool with a 1-0-2 record. Jackson beat Arcadia Valley and split games with Fredericktown and St. Pius.

To advance to the championship game, Jackson beat North County 15-9, 15-5.

Perryville went 1-1-1 in the tournament and did not emerge from pool play.

Ste. Genevieve beat Perryville by identical 15-11, 15-11 scores. Laura Ernst and Renee Kaempfe each had seven kills for the Lady Pirates.

Perryville then defeated St. Vincent 15-6, 15-4. Amy Verseman recorded seven service points while Ernst finished with six service points and six kills.

Perryville then split with North County 15-13, 8-15.
