MURPYSBORO, Ill. -- Cape Central's girls took first and Jackson's boys took second place in the 12-team Murphysboro Invitational Saturday.

On the flip side, Central's boys took fourth and Jackson's girls took fifth.

The Lady Tigers took first place with 91 points -- 16.5 points ahead of the second-place finisher -- despite having five key contributors out with nagging injuries. Sprinter Vicky Wilson was among those who missed the trip.

Central's Kim Pancoast was a three-event winner, taking first in the 800 (2:24) and 1,600 (5:32). She was also part of the 3,200 relay team of Whitney Pingel, Rachel Sprigg and Amanda Hutteger who ran the race in 10:18. Heather Jenkins placed first in both the discus (128-4) and shotput (39-0).

Pancoast received the meet's MVP award for the track portion, while Jenkins was given the same award for the field events.

Also for Central, Lani Bohnsack took first place in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.

For Jackson, Jeanna Bolen took first in the 100 (13.3) and the Lady Indians' 1,600 relay team of Jessica Venable, Bolen, Kelly Lichtenneger and Lindsey Meyr took first at 4:22.

On the boys' side for Jackson, Mario Whitney took first place in the 100 and 200, while Jon Coleman took first in the 110 hurdles (15.4). Whitney's time of 22.0 in the 200 broke his own meet record by .4 seconds. He ran the 100 in 10.6 seconds.

O.J. Turner posted a personal record discus throw of 146-2 to claim first place, while the Tigers' 3,200 relay team of Gabe Austin, Ross Tilghman, Justin Hawkins and Trevor Duncan took first with a time of 8:31.25.
