The numbers are uncannily similar, the rivalry heated. That should make for a rousing Class 4A, District 1 championship softball game between Jackson High and Cape Girardeau Central.

No. 1 Jackson, which beat Sikeston 14-0 Saturday in five innings, is 20-6.

No. 2 Central, which beat Poplar Bluff 14-0 Saturday in five innings, is 20-6.

One team's season will end at 4:30 Monday afternoon at Arena Park's Field No. 2. The other squad will advance to the sectional round.

Jackson's Beth Becker fired a no-hitter at Sikeston, striking out six and walking four. The Indians amassed 10 hits and stole 13 bases, led by Lindsey Meyr's four swipes.

Amanda Bullinger went 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

Central's Kathy Michel held Poplar Bluff to two hits, struck out two and walked none.

The Lady Tigers pounded out 16 hits. Ashley Voerg, Erica McDonald, Cassie Koch, Jennifer Daume, Crissi Matthews and Dionna Webb each had two hits. Webb also drove in three runs.

Class 3A, District 1

PERRYVILLE -- Perryville won the district title with a 16-1 demolishing of Doniphan and 6-1 victory over Ste. Genevieve in the championship game.

Carrie Preston was the winning pitcher in both contests.

In the title game, Amanda Schumer had a two-RBI triple in the sixth inning and Stacey Bauer clouted a solo homer, also in the sixth.

Perryville will play host to the sectional game Thursday at 4 against an opponent to be determined.

Class 2A, District 2

BENTON -- Jill Huber limited Crystal City to four hits as Notre Dame won 2-0 in a semifinal game. The Lady Bulldogs will meet Kelly Monday afternoon at 4 for the title.

In the first inning, after Suzanne Schwartz doubled and Randi Sencoby walked, both scored on a Crystal City error. Schwartz later added another double.

Notre Dame totaled just three hits.

"It was a well-played game," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim. "(Crystal City) hit the ball, but hit it at us and we made the plays."

Volleyball

Perryville 15-13-15, Cape Central 3-15-6

PERRYVILLE -- Cape Central took Perryville to three games but fell.

The Lady Tigers' Jessica Balogh garnered eight kills.

Perryville's Jeni Blevins tallied 12 digs, Kristen Taylor 10 kills, Jaimee Mueller 10 digs and Shannon Dreyer 17 assists. The Lady Pirates are now 10-9-2.

Perryville's JV squad won 15-2, 15-5.

Jackson wins tournament

ANNA, Ill. -- Jackson went 5-0 in the round-robin Anna-Jonesboro Invitational Saturday, winning 10 straight games.

The Lady Indians beat Eldorado (Ill.) 15-1, 15-7; Anna-Jonesboro 15-1, 15-12; Carmi (Ill.) 15-8, 15-11; West Frankfurt (Ill.) 16-14, 15-1; and Dyersburg (Tenn.) 15-8, 15-0.

Jackson is now 21-2-2. Chrissi Glastetter, Andrea Koepper and Heather Brown were selected to the all-tournament team.
