The Central girls track team captured first place Saturday at the Murphysboro Invitational in Illinois.
Central scored 120 points, followed by Cahokia (Ill.) with 99 and Salem (Ill.) with 76. Jackson finished fourth with 69 points.
The Tigers won eight events, including individual winners Veronica Schabbing in the 3,200 meters, Brittany Moreland in the 1,600, Linnea Woldtvedt in the 800, Nicole Jackson in the 200, Brianna Egbuka in the shot put and Emma Porter in the pole vault.
Central also captured the 400 relay and 3,200 relay.
Jackson was led by Rachel Kahle's four top-three finishes, including two first-place showings. Kahle, a junior, won the triple jump (35-2) and the 100 meters (12.3 seconds). She finished second in the 200 and third in the long jump.

Jordan Buchheit had three hits, stole four bases and scored three runs to help the Bulldogs win at Parkway North in the second game of the Vikings' twinbill.
Notre Dame (5-2) rapped out 10 hits and took advantage of four errors.
Lucas Dirnberger picked up the win, his second against no losses. He allowed eight runs over the first five innings.
Shane Menz and Nathan Kolda each had two hits for the Bulldogs.

The host Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held off Central.
Central had built a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Parkway North scored five in the third. After Central went ahead 7-6 in the top of the sixth, the Vikings scored three and limited the Tigers to one in the seventh.
Matt Hester had four hits for Central -- two triples and two doubles. Chris Brotherton added three hits.
Tyler Propst took the loss, his first, as the Tigers fell to 4-2.

Jackson broke loose with five eighth-inning runs to post an extra-inning road victory.
Austin Leimer's RBI double snapped a 1-1 tie. Geoff Enders followed with a two-run double and Zach Nolan added a two-run single as the Indians improved to 3-4.
Enders was the winner in relief with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Starter Logan Lawson allowed three hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts and no walks.
The Indians bounced back from Friday's 14-8 loss at New Madrid County Central.

Saxony Lutheran's first-year girls softball team recorded its first victory, beating Christ Our Savior Lutheran of Illinois 5-0 in Fruitland, Mo.
Cortney Shelton pitched a three-hitter for the Crusaders and struck out 13 batters over seven innings.
Saxony Lutheran (1-2) scored two runs in each of the first two innings and one more in the fourth.
The Crusaders had 12 hits, all singles, and were led by 3-for-3 performances from Nicole McLard and Lauren Hunt. Leah Gerecke, Kara Versemann and Meredith Hoffman each had two hits.

Callie Keilhofner threw a no-hitter to lead Oran to victory in a game played at Oran due to field conditions.
Keilhofner walked one and struck out seven over five innings.

Meridith Medlin scored with about 10 minutes remaining to lift the Bulldogs to victory at Villa Duchesne in Creve Coeur, Mo.
Medlin was assisted by Emily Blattel, a defender who sent a long ball to set up the goal. Medlin beat one defender and struck a shot to the top corner of the goal from 15 yards out.
Claudia Brauss recorded the shutout for Notre Dame (6-1).
"This was a pretty physical game for us, and we've played a lot of games this week," Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley said. "I was pleased with how we kept up with the pace."
JV -- Villa Duchesne won 2-1.
The Tigers lost to a team with seven players already committd to Division I soccer.
"We played pretty good," Central coach Tom Doyle said. "It was 2-0 at halftime and 4-0 midway through the second half."
Julia Brandenburgh scored three goals for Ursuline.
JV -- Ursuline won 7-0.
