Cape Girardeau Central High's girls basketball team picked up its second victory over Notre Dame in a little more than a week as the Lady Tigers prevailed 39-27 Friday night to take third place in the HealthSouth Classic Holiday Tournament at the Show Me Center.
Kim Aslinger scored 15 points to pace the Lady Tigers, who bounced back from Thursday's two-point loss to eventual champion Poplar Bluff. Central is now 7-2.
No player had more than seven points for Notre Dame, which fell to 5-6.
Central opened up a 27-12 halftime lead and coasted in the second half.
Perryville 62, Scott Central 46
Perryville bounced back from a narrow opening-round loss to Notre Dame by winning its second straight game and placing fifth.
Tiffany Perkins finished a big tournament with 19 points to lead the Lady Pirates (5-3). She scored 70 points in three tourney games.
Scott Central (3-5) got 17 points from Katie Griffin, 13 from Brandy Miller and 10 from Ashley Whitson.
"It's the first time we've won two games in this tournament," said Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann. "We had a good tournament and we bounced back from the tough (first-round) loss. Tiffany really had a wonderful tournament."
Kelly 36, Scott City 33
Kelly avoided a winless tournament and placed seventh by avenging a recent loss to the Lady Rams.
The Lady Hawks (7-3) had no double-figure scorers. Bridgette Riley led the way with nine points.
Scott City (5-3) got 14 points from Alaina Smith and 12 from Crystal Smith. The Lady Rams played without leading scorer Becca Gowin, who suffered a hip injury the day before.
