Cape Girardeau Central's boys basketball team fell into the consolation side of the 31st annual Sikeston Tournament as third-seeded Blytheville (Ark.) upended the sixth-seeded Tigers 52-40 Tuesday night.
The Tigers, who had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 2-2, received a game-high 19 points from Ryan Delph. But no other Central player scored more than seven points.
Blytheville, which led 30-19 at halftime and by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter, got 14 points from Daniel Smith and 13 from John Fowler.
In a tournament semifinal Tuesday, top-seeded Poplar Bluff moved into Friday's championship game with a 52-48 victory over No. 4 Sikeston.
Also Tuesday, in a consolation semifinal, No. 5 New Madrid County Central clipped No. 8 Kennett 67-48.
Central plays No. 7 Doniphan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a consolation semifinal.
Scott City 81, St. Vincent 49
Scott City continued its strong early-season play as the Rams handed St. Vincent a lopsided loss in the Indians' season opener.
The Rams (2-0) were led offensively by D.J. Walton with 22 points, Andy Beck with 18 and Jeremy Schlosser with 16. Tyler Ward contributed seven rebounds and six blocked shots while Chris Bradshaw recorded six assists.
St. Vincent got 12 points from Matt Wengert. Dominic Richardet and Alex Armbruster added 10 each.
Scott City, ahead just 30-23 at halftime, exploded in the second half.
Woodland 51, Leopold 50
Leopold couldn't stop the outside shooting of Woodland forward Luke Johnson and lost a thriller at home.
Johnson hit seven three-pointers for Woodland on his way to 25 points. Travis Benfield added 13 for the Cardinals (3-1).
Kevin Holzum led the Wildcats (1-4) with 14 points. Josh Van de Ven and Brandon Bueter each added 12.
Farmington 69, Perryville 54
Perryville committed 30 fouls, giving Farmington 41 free-throw attempts, as the Pirates lost at home.
While allowing Farmington 29 points from the line, Perryville (1-1) shot only 11-for-23 from the line. Jacob Bachmann led the Pirates with 11 points.
Delta 48, Oak Ridge 41
Delta picked up its first win in a low-scoring matchup with visiting Oak Ridge.
Delta (1-2) got 13 points from Derek Helderman and 10 from Joey Keys.
Alex Fadler led Oak Ridge (0-4) with 10 points.
Portageville 74, Kelly 56
Despite shooting 20 more free throws than Portageville, Kelly suffered a home loss.
The Hawks (1-4) were led by Major Burger with 14 points. Lance Scheffer added 11 and Brooks Edmond had 10.
Kelly went 25-for-37 from the line while Portageville was 10-for-17.
Girls' Basketball
ST. VINCENT 68, KINGSTON 33
St. Vincent climbed over .500 with a home win over Kingston.
Daniel Schremp led the way for the Squaws (3-2) with 21 points. Chelsea Brown added 12.
Woodland 74, Lesterville 14
Woodland picked up its first win in convincing fashion on the road.
The Cardinals (1-1) led 45-4 at halftime, before backing down some late in the game.
Alicia Glastetter paced Woodland with 24 points. Stacie Greer had 20 and Sasha Hutson added 15.
Wrestling
CENTRAL 42, CARBONDALE (ILL.) 31
Central continued its strong start with a home victory as the Tigers improved to 2-0 in dual matches for the first time in at least 15 years, according to coach Josh Crowell.
Matt Welker (119), Brandon Hinkle (145), Cory Huskey (152), Trever Duncan (160) and Jason Poole (189) all won by pin for the Tigers.
Jackson 60, De Soto 11
Jackson (2-0) rolled to a home victory as the Indians won the first 11 weight classes.
The Indians received victories by pin from Sean Gant (112), Brock Howard (125), Ben Wachter (135), Kramer Rampley (145), Greg Ludwig (152) and Charles Doerge (heavyweight).
Boys' swimming
NOTRE DAME 131, POPLAR BLUFF 45
Poplar Bluff's new program was swept in each event by the host Bulldogs.
Jameson Kuper highlighted a solid day by Notre Dame when he bettered his state-qualifying time in the 200 freestyle. Kuper won in 1 minutes, 52.5 seconds.
Notre Dame took the top two spots in six events.
Freshmen BOYS' basketball
CENTRAL TEAMS LOSE
Central's freshmen boys suffered two losses at Carbondale, Ill., Monday night.
The A team (1-2) fell 70-50 despite 20 points from Jared Thomas. The B team fell 33-30 (0-2). Trevor Beckham scored nine points for Central.
