The Central boys soccer team bounced back for a dramatic win Saturday after two losses in the Quincy Tournament in Quincy, Ill.

Matt Compas scored on an assist from Brad Labruyere with 5 seconds remaining in regulation to beat Wichita Heights of Kansas 2-1.

The goal was Central's second in the final 2 minutes. Matt Hester had the first tally on an assist from Lucian Johnson.

Central (8-8-2) had lost Friday and lost 2-0 early Saturday against Glenbrook North of Illinois.

Saxony Lutheran 11, Crocker City 1

Bryant Steffens scored five goals to lead the first-year Saxony Lutheran program in an easy victory. Mark Buerck added three goals and two assists, and Andrew Etzold had a goal and four assists for the Crusaders (7-3).

FOOTBALL Fredericktown 12, Perryville 0

The host Blackcats celebrated improved to 2-0 in the MAFC White Division. Perryville (3-3, 1-3) gave up all 12 points in the fourth quarter.

BOYS SWIMMING Cape Rock Invitational

Central finished eighth and Notre Dame was 10th in the 13-team Cape Rock Invitational at Central Municipal Pool.

Peyton Waggener made a state cut for Central in the 200-meter individual medley, dropping 5 seconds to a time of 2 minutes, 5.64 seconds. Waggener added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Springfield Glendale won.

CROSS COUNTRY Potosi Invitational

Central's Brittany Moreland paced the girls field in the Potosi Invitational, winning the meet in 19:38. She and sixth-place Veronica Schabbing led Central to third as a team.

In the boys race, Notre Dame finished second. Greg Gibson of Jackson led the local boys with a seventh-place finish.
