Lee Thomas scored off a corner kick less than 10 minutes into the second half and visiting Central held on for a 1-0 victory Wednesday night against Notre Dame.

The game was a rematch of the Noon Optimist final, in which Notre Dame (7-3-1) scored a 3-1 win after rallying for three late goals.

"When we got ahead we knew we weren't out of the woods, but we held on," Central coach Tom Doyle said.

Meghan Orr picked up the assist for the Tigers (7-3). Jackie Twidwell made about 10 saves for the shutout.

"We were trying to do some different thing with our attack and we created a lot of chances," Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley said. "Their goalie did a good job coming out and cutting off some crosses."

De Soto 3, St. Vincent 1

Shelby Hotop scored St. Vincent's lone goal in a road loss. Valerie Richardet had the assist for the Squaws (3-5-2).

BOYS GOLF Central 142, Dexter 169

Central had two players finish under par at Cape Country Club and finished 2 over as a team.

"That's the lowest score we've had in a while," said long-time Central coach Dick Wadlington, whose team improved to 8-0. "That's an outstanding score."

Kirk Lohmann earned medalist honors with a 2-under 33. Blake Driskell carded a 34, Robert Kaverman shot a 36, and Zach Kluesner and Jack Connel each shot a 39.

Jackson 159, ND 166, Sikeston 168

Gabe Sauer tied for medalist honors to help lead Jackson to a win at Kimbeland.

Sauer shot a 2-over-par 37, as did Notre Dame freshman Brett Slaten.

Josh Wheeler and Taylor McDowell each shot a 40 for the Indians, and Nic Robinson shot a 42.

For Notre Dame, Brandon Holzum shot a 38, Austin Gelscheimer added a 45 and Austin Hunter carded a 46.

St. Vincent 172, Crystal City 186

Corey Brueckner earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 39 to lead the Indians to a win at Union Hills Golf Club in Pevely, Mo.

Zach Richardet shot a 40 for St. Vincent (5-1, 3-1 Jefferson County Conference). Lucas Schumer added a 41, and Jacob Sutterer and Zach Rozier each shot a 47.

BASEBALL Scott City 18, Delta 1

Scott City scored 12 runs in the second inning and routed visiting Delta.

Andy Stephens had three hits to lead the Rams (3-4).

Rynn Eskew picked up his first pitching win, striking out 10 batters and allowing no earned runs in four innings.

Oak Ridge Tournament

Josh Barrett had the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the save to lead Zalma to a 6-5 first-round win over host Oak Ridge at the Oak Ridge Tournament.

Dustin McCain allowed four hits and struck out five in six innings for the win.

Tim Landing led Zalma (1-5) with three hits.

Zalma will play Saxony Lutheran in a semifinal today.

In the other first-round game Wednesday, Woodland gained a 5-1 lead after three innings and rode sophomore Daniel Lewis' varsity pitching debut to a 6-3 victory against Meadow Heights.

The Cardinals (3-5) will play St. Vincent, who received a first-round bye, today at 2 p.m.

Lewis allowed three earned runs and struck out three in a complete game.

Jacob Gillis led Woodland at the plate with three hits.

In the consolation championship, also played Wednesday, Oak Ridge took advantage of seven Meadow Heights errors and topped the Panthers 13-1.

Meadow Heights (4-4), which had 14 hits in a win over Oak Ridge on Tuesday, managed just two hits Wednesday and committed seven errors.

Ethan Sachs earned the win for Oak Ridge (2-7).

Woodland and Saxony Lutheran posted first-round wins to advance to the semifinal round.

Woodland scored seven runs in the seventh inning in a come-from-behind 12-6 win against Meadow Heights, and Saxony posted a 6-3 win over Oak Ridge.

Lotte Cook and Tasha Lincoln each had three hits for Woodland (6-4).

Oak Ridge was led by Amanda King with four hits against Saxony..

In the consolation championship, Oak Ridge pounded Meadow Heights 19-7 in five innings.

Oak Ridge had 17 hits, including four hits from Moll. Mattie Jo Wilhite and Amanda King had three hits each for the Eagles (2-6).
