Todd Centers of Cape Girardeau found consistency residing in his golf bag and it was enough to win the First Annual Parks Development Foundation Men's Individual Tournament Sunday at Jaycees Municipal Golf Course.
Centers shot his second consecutive 75 for a 150 total to capture Championship flight by a comfortable six strokes over first-day leader Thomas Rainwater.
Centers' 75 edged Bill Isbell's 76 for best round of the day on the par-70 Cape Jaycees layout.
"My round was about the same as yesterday," said Centers, a member of Bent Creek Golf Course and a former member at Jaycees. "I putted well today. The heat was pretty excruciating and the play was somewhat slow."
After three birdies on Saturday, Centers was only able to coax a birdie out of the par 3 No. 12.
He overcame the lack of birdies with a steady run of pars
"I didn't make any stupid mistakes," said Centers. "It was pretty even. No real high points or low points."
Centers was not paired with Rainwater and had no idea what kind of score his fellow competitor was working on.
"I just had to go out and try to shoot by best score and hope it was good enough when I got done," he said.
After shooting a 74 in Saturday's first round, Rainwater followed with an 82 for a 156 total.
Randy Eichorn (78-79--157) and Andy Golden (79-78--157) were another shot back.
"I don't get the opportunity to play as much as I use to, so to shoot two consistent rounds of 75-75, I was pleased with that," said Centers.
Other flight winners were Jim Furey (81-78--159) in A flight; Mark Oliver (83-85--168) in B flight; and Rockey Hayes (90-81--171) in C flight.
