DENVER -- The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-hander Eric Fornataro and infielder Pete Kozma from Class AAA Memphis to fill the roster spots of injured pitchers Michael Wacha and Jamie Garcia.
Wacha (right shoulder stress reaction) and Garcia (left shoulder inflammation) were placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. Garcia's move was retroactive to Saturday and Wacha's placement was retroactive to last Wednesday.
Fornataro was 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA and four saves in 19 appearances for Memphis. Kozma is up for the second time this season. He began the year with the Cardinals before being optioned April 14 to Memphis, where he hit .234 in 59 games.
Left-hander Marco Gonzales, the Cardinals' first-round draft pick last year, is set to have his contract purchased from Class AA Springfield and start Wednesday's game against Colorado. Gonzales, who will be making his major league debut, grew up in nearby Fort Collins. His father, Frank Gonzales, is a minor league pitching coach for the Rockies.
