Cardinals plan event for final weekend at Busch

The final regular-season weekend at 40-year-old Busch Stadium will be a trip down memory lane for the St. Louis Cardinals, featuring appearances by Mark McGwire, Stan Musial and Whitey Herzog.

"We want to have one last hurrah at Busch Stadium with the best fans in baseball," Cardinals team president Mark Lamping said Thursday.

"The weekend will be filled with heartfelt tributes to the most memorable athletes, coaches, broadcasters and plays that have made Cardinals baseball the tradition that it is today," he added.

The 20th anniversary of the 1985 National League championship season will be observed on Sept. 30, the first game of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Among those scheduled to attend are Ozzie Smith, Vince Coleman, Jack Clark, Bob Forsch, Rick Horton, John Tudor, Tom Herr and Herzog.

Throughout the game, replays of top-10 moments in stadium history, as chosen by online fan balloting, will be shown and fans will receive a DVD of the highlights.

On Oct. 1, the Cardinals will announce an all-Busch Stadium team also determined by fan balloting.

Post-game ceremonies on Oct. 2, the regular season finale, will honor players and coaches since 1966 and a lap around the field by the Budweiser Clydesdales.

A limited number of tickets remained for Friday's game but the last two games are sellouts.
