Cardinals minor leaguer suspended for drugs

NEW YORK -- A minor league infielder in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization has been suspended 50 games after a positive drug test.

Second baseman Brett Wiley of Class A State College was banned Wednesday by the commissioner's office. He tested positive for an amphetamine.

Wiley played for three Cardinals teams this year. He hit .337 with 18 RBIs in 25 games for State College, and will miss the playoffs in the New York-Penn League.

There have been 51 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program and 15 under the major league program.
