Caps sweep Springfield in no-hit fashion

Plaza Tire posted a pair of shutouts that included a no-hitter.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Plaza Tire Capahas responded to their first loss of the season with a dominating shutout sweep on Sunday of the Springfield Tallies that included a no-hitter by right-hander Jamie McAlister.

Behind McAlister's eight-strikeout gem, the Capahas won the opener 2-0. Plaza Tire then broke loose for 19 hits in a 13-0 victory in the second game.

The Capahas, who suffered their first loss on Saturday to the Cape Riverdogs, improved to 10-1.

McAlister, who completed his junior season at Southeast Missouri State, picked up his first win of the summer. He walked two and faced just three batters over the minimum in the seven-inning contest.

"Levi Olson, our catcher, said his ball was really moving a lot," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen.

McAlister was in control throughout, with his defense not called upon to make any difficult plays.

"There were no line drives at anybody," Bolen said. "He was just pretty well dominant all the way."

The game was scoreless in the top of the sixth when Lance Seasor sent a one-out double to the left-field wall to score two runs. Seasor had two of Plaza Tire's five hits.

The Capahas threw three pitchers at Springfield in the second game. Starter Ryan Forsyth (2--0) picked up the win, allowing three hits in four innings. He struck out two and walked one. Kyle Long followed with two innings of one-hit relief, and Josh Parham hurled a perfect seventh inning.

Plaza Tire scored three runs in the second and extended the lead to 9-0 in a six-run third. Two runs were added in both the fourth and seventh innings.

Bryan Kurt led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. Seasor, Seth Hudson, Jason Chavez, Bryan Ingram, Olson and Tom Bolen each had two hits.
