FARMINGTON, Mo. -- The McDowell Capahas received strong pitching from Billy Huston and Jerry Wolsey as they knocked off host Farmington 8-1 Wednesday night.

Huston was the winning hurler as he worked the first five innings, allowing Farmington's lone run and one hit. He struck out six and walked one.

Wolsey pitched the final four frames, giving up four hits while fanning six and walking none.

"Our pitching was very good tonight," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen, whose squad improved its record to 18-5. "Billy and Jerry both threw the ball extremely well. Billy has really been a pleasant surprise for us this year."

Farmington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Capahas went ahead for good with a four-run third that was highlighted by Darin Kinsolving's three-run home run.

The Capahas also scored four runs in the sixth, Cory Crosnoe delivering a two-run homer.

Kinsolving, Crosnoe, Zach Borowiak and Chris Sledge all had two of the Capahas' 12 hits.

The Capahas will be back in action Saturday when they play the St. Louis Printers at 11:30 a.m. in the first round of the Valmeyer (Ill.) Tournament.

"We're 2-2 against the Printers this year and they're the only team that has beaten us twice so far," Bolen said. "It should be a pretty good matchup."

The Valmeyer tourney will continue Sunday and, after a day off Monday, conclude Tuesday.

"I think it should be a good tournament, really competitive," said Bolen. "There should be quite a few good teams in the tournament."
