Wednesday night's game against Paducah, Ky. is one that the Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Senior Legion team would like to soon forget.
Like before 2 p.m. today.
With a district doubleheader against Sikeston looming today, Cape looked lethargic Wednesday night, falling to Paducah 13-2 in eight innings at Capaha Field.
Cape managed just six hits total and just three off starting left-handed pitcher West Harris.
Cape, which got off to a blazing start in the season, fell to 15-17.
"Right now, we're not playing at all," said Cape manager Ron Michel. "But we played a tough team. They're almost out of our league to tell you the truth. We could've beat them on a perfect night, but this wasn't a perfect night."
Paducah had no homers on the night, but posted a rare feat it had five triples.
Cape's outfield seemed to have troubles gauging the ball and were burned deep often. In addition to the triples, Paducah also took advantage of a three-base error in the first inning.
Cape didn't just have problems in the outfield either. It couldn't get anything mustered at the plate and it didn't run the bases well.
Starter Jay Pierce was tagged with the loss, though he pitched well for five innings before being rocked in the sixth. Pierce went 5 1/3 and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out five.
Cape scored single runs in the third and the seventh.
In the third, Daniel Turner singled and scored on an error. And in the seventh, Rob Carr doubled and scored on a Turner double.
Turner was the only Cape player with more than one hit.
Paducah scored at least one in every inning but the third and the fifth. It scored an unearned run in the first, added one more in the second, another in the fourth, six in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Jeremy King had a particularly strong night for Paducah, going 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
But West was the story for Paducah. The lanky lefty had Cape off balance for most of the game. He went six innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks. He struck out three.
