PADUCAH, Ky. -- Cape Ford & Sons knocked off the Clarksville (Tenn.) Orioles 5-1, but fell 7-3 to Paducah in the four-team round-robin tournament.
Timmy Wencewicz picked up the win in the first game for Ford & Sons (7-8). He went six innings and allowed one run on three hits and five walks. He struck out one. Tyler Schlosser allowed one hit in one inning of relief.
Shane Kistner, Schlosser, and Wencewicz all went 3-for-4, while Dusty Barrows banged out two hits.
In Cape's loss to Paducah, Barrows went 3-for-4 and Jay Pierce went 2-for-2.
Rob Carr suffered the loss. He went four innings and allowed four runs, all earned, on six hits and four walks.
Cape Yankees win two
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Yankees, one of the city's two Senior Babe Ruth teams, won two games Saturday in the Scott City Tournament.
The Yankees won the first game 11-3 over Scott City, then knocked off Dexter 4-2.
Against Scott City, the Yankees banged out 15 hits, three each by Ricky Renfroe and Matt Pobst. Adam Ralls had two.
Brennan Gibson was the winning pitcher. In five innings, he allowed three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four. Matt Wilson struck out two in two perfect innings of relief.
Against Dexter, Wilson and Gibson had two hits each for the Yankees (11-1), who will play in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. today.
Garrett Williams picked up the win in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Wilson got the save in relief. He allowed one hit and walked two while striking out three in 1 2/3 innings.
Cape Jr. Legion Tournament
Cape Girardeau's Best Mortgage junior Legion team will be playing in the championship game of its own tournament after posting a pair of wins Saturday.
Best Mortgage (21-3) knocked off Kirkwood 5-2, then toppled Anheuser-Busch 10-3.
Against Kirkwood, John Thies got the win in seven innings, allowing eight hits while walking four and striking out six.
Seth Hudson, Chris Daniel and Dustin Tatum all had two hits.
In Best Mortgage's second game Saturday, Blake Urhann limited Anheuser-Busch to only two hits and two walks, while striking out seven.
Aaron Dohogne had three hits, while Chris Conrad and Clay Schermann had two.
On Friday, Cape knocked off Perryville 11-7.
Chaffee Legion splits with Anheuser Busch
ST. LOUIS -- Chaffee, with Matt Stroup on the mound, lost the first game 6-5 but beat Anheuser-Busch 18-7 behind the pitching of Andrew DePeder in the nightcap.
DePeder, in a rare appearance on the mound, allowed seven runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four for Chaffee (8-5)
G.P. Glueck, batting leadoff, had four hits, a triple shy of the cycle. Justin Simpher had three hits, including a home run that traveled more than 400 feet, Chaffee coach Jeff Graviett said. John O'Rourke and DePeder also had three hits and Jon Heuring had two.
In the opener, Stroup was touched for four runs, two earned, on nine hits and three walks.
Glueck and Travis Hanback had two hits apiece for Chaffee, while O'Rourke hit an inside-the-park home run.
