SENATH, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team suffered a 4-2 loss to host Dunklin County in the opener of a doubleheader Friday night that served as Cape's season debut.

The second game was tied 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning when the Southeast Missourian went to press.

Cape committed three errors which led to three Dunklin County runs in the fifth inning.

Jason Chavez suffered the loss. He allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out eight.

Cape managed only four hits, one each by Timmy Wencewicz, Justin Welker, Dusty Barrows and Travis Wissman.

Tri-County Jr. Legion 13, Dunklin Co. 3

ORAN, Mo. -- Zac Horman went 3-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate and picked up the win on the mound as Tri-County Junior Legion opened its season Thursday with a victory.

Horman allowed eight hits, struck out seven and walked three in the five-inning contest.

Joey Bickings went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in Tri-County's 13 hit attack while Ryan Wood was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Tyler Cookson added a home run.
