The Cape Girardeau Post 63 Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team opened District 14 play Sunday with a 5-0 win at Sikeston.

Cape also captured the non-district nightcap of the doubleheader 10-4 to improve its record to 11-7.

Andrew Williams fired a three-hit shutout, needing only 67 pitches to get through the seven innings. He struck out two, walked none and hit a batter.

Ford & Sons had just five hits, led by Josh Henson with two. Austin Greer and Skylar Cobb each drove in a run.

The non-district nightcap was tied 4-4 after the regulation seven innings before Cape exploded for six eighth-inning runs.

Tyler Brant pitched all eight innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs.

Cape had 10 hits, led by Josh Meyer with three. Greer and Jimmy Obermark both added two hits.

Ford & Sons hosts District 14 favorite Dunklin County today in a 6 p.m. doubleheader, with the opener counting on the district record.

Jackson Senior Legion

The Jackson Senior Legion baseball team won its final game in the 48-team Battle of Omaha tournament in Omaha, Neb., and finished with a 2-2 record in pool play.

Jackson defeated Columbus, Neb., 4-0 Sunday behind the three-hit pitching of Caleb Hosey, who struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Michael Mouser led Jackson (11-5) with three hits -- two for doubles -- and two RBIs.

In a game played Saturday, Denver (Colo.) defeated Jackson 6-4. Travis Hurst took the loss.

Moline, Ill., went 4-0 in Jackson's six-team pool and was one of the eight pool winners to advance to bracket play.
