PADUCAH, Ky. -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team snapped an eight-game losing streak Saturday afternoon in its final game of the four-team Paducah Tournament.
Ford & Sons beat Farmington 9-6 to even its record at 14-14. Earlier in the day Cape lost to Paducah 7-5 and late Friday night fell to Mount Vernon (Ill.) 6-1.
Despite getting outhit 9-7 by Farmington, Cape was able to rally for its only victory in the tournament. Trailing 6-3 after four innings, Cape scored six runs over the final three innings to win.
Adam Bertrand had three hits for Cape. Todd Pennington and Shane Gibson added two hits each and also had home runs. Pennington's was an inside-the-park homer in the first inning while Gibson went yard in the third.
Travis Klipfel got the win in relief of Michael Minner and Matt Welker. Dustin Glastetter picked up the save.
In the Paducah loss, Cape spoiled a solid complete-game pitching performance by Glastetter. Three Ford & Sons errors hurt20as Glastetter allowed 10 hits.
"Dustin had a very good outing," said Cape coach Ron Michel. "We just made too many mistakes."
After Cape battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the score 3-3, Paducah scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
Pennington had two of Cape's seven hits.
In its opening game of the tourney Friday, Cape managed just four hits in a loss to Mount Vernon. Pennington had two doubles and Joey McCullough took the loss.
Ford & Sons plays Mt. Vernon again today in Paducah.
