JACKSON, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau's Junior American Legion baseball team won its first two games of the year and its first two games of the Jackson Tournament.

After routing Florissant 10-0 late Friday night, Cape routed De Soto 12-1 Saturday morning.

Lee Essner struck out 12 in throwing a three-hitter Saturday. He walked two.

Mitch Craft and Aaron Dohogne both hit three-run homers. Craft went 2-for-2 and Dohogne finished 3-for-3.

John Thies won Friday night's game as he allowed only one hit over six innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

Seth Hudson went 2-for-2 with a triple.

Cape will finish pool play at 9 a.m. today against Sikeston. The two pool winners in the eight-team tournament will meet at 7 o'clock tonight for the championship.
