ORAN, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Best Mortgage Junior American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Tri-County of Oran as Cape won the first game 3-2 but lost the second game 8-1 Wednesday night.

Mitch Craft had two hits in both games, including a solo home run in the first. He has nine hits in his last four games.

John Thies picked up the win in the first game. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out 11.

Jason Gibson suffered the loss in the nightcap, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out four.

Chris Daniel, Chris Conrad and Collin Schermann each had two hits.

Tuesday night, Cape (32-9) split a doubleheader with Poplar Bluff, losing the first game 4-2, then winning the second game 17-2.

Matt Wulfers suffered the loss in the opener. He struck out five but walked six and allowed five hits.

Craft had three hits in that game and two in the second game as Blake Urhahn picked up the win on the mound. Urhahn hurled a two-hitter, struck out nine and walked five. He also had four hits at the plate.

Daniel had two hits, including a two-run homer.

St. Louis Sox 2, Riverdogs 1

ST. LOUIS -- The Cape Riverdogs suffered a heartbreaking 10-inning loss to fall to 4-8.

The Riverdogs allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th inning. They had forced extra frames on John Carenza's two-out home run in the top of the ninth that made it 1-1.

Doug Lorella allowed three hits and one run over the first seven innings, w ith seven strikeouts and one walk. Mark Silverthorn hurled the rest of the way and was the tough-luck loser.

Greg Craft had two of the Riverdogs' seven hits.
