MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Wood & Houston Junior Legion team from Cape Girardeau dropped its first game of the Midsouth Super Series II Tournament Friday, falling 5-3 to Gallatin, Tenn. at Tim McCarver Stadium.

Timmy Wencewicz suffered the loss, going five innings and giving up six hits and two walks while striking out three.

Wood & Houston (18-3), which dropped to 0-1 in Pool B, managed just five hits total, two off the bat of Aaron Dohogne. Gallatin improved to 2-0 in pool play.

Cape will play Oxford, Miss. in a non-pool game today at 11:30 a.m. and will play a team from Dallas at 7 p.m.

Cape Yankees pick up win in pool play

The Cape Yankees beat the Cape White Sox 14-4 in five innings in pool play of the Senior Babe Ruth Fire Cracker Classic Friday.

In other games, Mayfield, Ky. beat Steele 10-2 and Dexter defeated New Madrid 9-5.
