PARIS, Tenn. -- Wood & Houston Cape Junior Legion Post 63 set up a pool showdown in the 12-team Paris (Tenn.) Flames Tournament with a pair of victories on Saturday.

Cape improved to 9-2 on the season by going 3-0 in pool play.

It will face Mayfield, Ky., today at 1:30 p.m. with the winner playing in the tournament's championship game at 6.

The local squad defeated Jackson County 11-1 in five innings Friday, then posted a 12-0, five-inning win over Benton Saturday. Wood & Houston then set up the showdown by defeating host Paris 8-2 Saturday night.

"We're playing our best ball of the season," said Cape Junior Legion coach Steve Williams, who saw his team commit just one error in three games.

Justin Welker allowed one hit against Jackson County, walking three and striking out five. Welker, Jay Pierce, Zac Fidler and John Snyder all had two hits in Cape's 11-hit attack.

Scott Eftink limited Benton to just three hits, striking out five and walking no one. Cape again had 11 hits. Welker led the way with three hits which included a double and a triple. Fidler belted a game-ending grand slam and finished with two hits and five RBIs. Travis Wissman also had two hits.

Against Paris, Tim Wencewicz made his pitching debut for Wood & Houston and picked up the win. He went five innings before giving way to Jeff Daniels. Wencewicz allowed four hits, struck out two and walked three. Daniels pitched two innings of two-hit relief, walking three and striking out two.

Wood & Houston once again had 11 hits. Dusty Barrows led the attack with three hits while Fidler and Welker each had two.
