The Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth baseball team was firing on all cylinders Thursday night as they posted a pair of 10-run rule victories against Sikeston in a doubleheader at Capaha Park.
Cape Girardeau (7-10) won the opener 11-1 in a game that was stopped in six innings by the mercy rule, then added a 15-1 decision in five innings in the nightcap.
Anthony Wulfers went the distance in the opener to record the win. He struck out 10, allowed four hits and gave up only one walk.
"Anthony pitched well. He made them put the ball in play and our guys made some defensive plays behind him," Cape coach Alan Wengert said. "It was a team effort. We didn't commit an error in the game."
Wulfers had plenty of help from his offense as well: Cape tallied a dozen hits.
"Our guys were aggressive at the plate and swung the bat well," Wengert said. "That's what you have to do to win games."
Luke Moll led the Cape hitting attack. He was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Jacob Wengert added three hits and one RBI, and Nathan Kolda went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Logan Haines also had two hits for Cape.
In the second game, Tyler Bruce, Wengert, Garrett Stevens and Wulfers had two hits apiece to lead Cape's 11-hit attack.
Bruce sparked the offensive explosion with a three-run blast to left-center field in the first inning.
Stevens held Sikeston to just four hits while striking out six batters in a complete-game victory.
"Sikeston's a team that's struggling and we were able to capitalize on it," Alan Wengert said. "Overall, we had a good night."
Next for Cape is a home game against Chaffee on Thursday.
