The Cape Girardeau Central girls relay team of Kylie Lane, Jaleria Dent, Brittnee Blackmon and Alexus Walker picked up a third-place finish in Class 4 with a time of 49.72 seconds, leading the way for the Tigers at the state track and field championships on Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Jackson's Dakota Maddox tied for third in the Class 5 boys pole vault. His leap of 15 feet tied with KC Lightfoot of Lee's Summit. It's the second straight year Maddox has placed third in the event.

The Indians also received a solid finish from the 3,200-meter relay team of Caleb Bess, Gabriel Dudley, Alex Philipps and Joseph Reed, who finished fourth in 7:59.41, while Justin Crane took fifth for Jackson in the discus (159-00).

On the Class 5 girls side, Jackson placed fourth in the 3,200 relay. The team of Megan Barnum, Chelsea Drum, Carli Knott and Kaylee Wilson finished the race in 9:29.64. Katherine Schumer took fifth to lead the Indians in the pole vault (10-9).

Perryville's Eric Roth finished fifth in the Class 4 boys 300 hurdles with a time of 39.30.

Other top-10 finishers from around the area were Perryville's boys 800 relay team of Payton Besand, Kyle Wood, Emilio Mattingly and Eric Roth (Class 4, 10th, 1:31.94), Central's Patrick Buck in the boys discus (Class 4, 10th, 151-8), Notre Dame's Courtney Jones in the girls high jump (Class 4, 8th, 5-1), Jackson's Carli Knott in the girls 800 (Class 5, 7th, 2:18.87) and Jackson's Nicole Humphreys (Class 5, 9th, 122-8) and Olivia Brown (Class 5, 10th, 117-5) in the girls discus.

In Class 3, John Burroughs took the boys title with 73 points while McCluer South-Berkeley notched 69 points to take the girls crown.

Grandview won the Class 4 boys title with 60 points, and MICDS claimed the Class 4 girls championship with 74 points.

Lafayette (Wildwood) ran away with the Class 5 boys crown with 81 points while Lee's Summit West finished with 96 points to win the Class 5 girls title.
