The Cape Girardeau American Legion team finished 0-4 in the annual Red Loehr Memorial Firecracker Tournament, hosted by Ballwin American Legion.

The eight-team event concluded Sunday at Ellisville Athletic Association.

The Ford & Sons pitching staff was roughed up for a combined 48 runs in four games. That negated an offense that scored 31 runs in the tournament.

Cape lost its opener on Friday 17-9 to St. Peters. Trevor Irwin had four hits in the game, and Scott Brueckner added three.

On Saturday, Cape lost 11-4 to Decatur (Ill.) and 12-11 to Eureka. Sean Bard combined for five hits in the two losses.

Ford & Sons lost its final game 8-7 to Waynesville (Mo.) in 10 innings. Blake Slattery led Cape with three hits in the game.

Cape (10-18) will play on Wednesday at home against Dothan, Ala.

Jackson sweeps De Soto

The Jackson American Legion team swept a home doubleheader from De Soto on Saturday behind four home runs by Brandon Gendron.

Gendron blasted three home runs in a 10-5 victory in the opener, and he added another blast in a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Tyrone Reece pitched three innings in the first game to record the win.

Led by Gendron, Jackson (15-12) banged out 13 hits in the first game. Gendron was 4-for-4 with six RBIs. Chad Minson added three hits, and Geoff Enders had two hits.

Jason Meystedt went the distance in the second game and provided the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Rex Meyr and Zach Ayers each had three hits in Jackson's 11-hit attack. Gendron went 2-for-2, while Meystedt added two hits.

Jackson is scheduled to be back in action tonight when Perryville visits for a doubleheader.
