After a one-year hiatus, the Cape Central Relays are back.
The Tigers will host a 14-team meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Southeast Missouri State University's Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex.
The event, called off last year after several schools had scheduling conflicts with Easter weekend, is not a typical meet.
All events, including the field events, will be tallied as relay scores. For example, the school with the three best combined shot puts will win the event.
However, no team scores will be kept.
There will also be two odd relay events -- a sprint and distance medley. In the sprint medley, the race will be run in legs of 200, 100, 100 and 400 meters. The distance medley will consist of 800, 400, 1,200 and 1,600 legs.
Schools that will be participating include: Cape Central, Jackson, Sikeston, Poplar Bluff, Farmington, Hillsboro, North County, Ste. Genevieve, Park Hills, East Prairie, Murphysboro (Ill.), Vianney, Dyersburg (Tenn.), Vienna (Ill.) and Cairo (Ill.).
Because the relays will be held at Abe Stuber, an admission of $2 will be charged for adults and $1 for youth.
"The weather looks like it will be decent," Cape Central coach Lawrence Brookins said. "I've heard it'll be about 80. Let's hope they're not lying to us again."
