Cape Central tennis team snares individual singles, doubles district titles

Pablo Jaramillo can add individual district champion to the team district crown he and his Central teammates captured Wednesday.

Jaramillo only dropped two games while cruising to three victories at the Class 2 District 1 individual tournament Friday and Saturday.

Jaramillo opened play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lindbergh's Brendan Turlingtin before downing Oakville's Mark Dulle 6-1, 6-0.

Jaramillo wrapped up the district title with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Oakville's Alex Bergmann.

Jaramillo advanced to the individual sectional round Monday at Kirkwood Park, and he won't be traveling alone.

Central's No. 2 doubles team of Alvaro Jaramillo and Ryan Watts posted three victories to grab their own individual district championship.

Alvaro Jaramillo and Watts started with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 win over Poplar Bluff's No. 1 team of Cody Hillis and Devin Allison then knocked off Lindbergh's No. 1 team of Mike Skaer and Chris Bell 6-3, 6-4.

Alvaro Jaramillo and Watts grabbed the crown Saturday with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lindbergh's Shaefer Grogerson and Brendan Czaicki.

Central's No. 1 doubles team of Sam Stahly and Austin Shupert won its first match 6-0, 6-1 over Poplar Bluff's No. 2 team before falling to Grogerson and Czaicki 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Monday's sectional round is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
