Cape Central's girls swim team suffered its first loss of the season, losing a close meet to Parkway North 98-88 Friday at Cape Central Pool.
"We made a few mistakes and we were without our big star Grace Freeman," said Cape Central coach Dayna Powell. "With Grace there, I think we could of won it, but it would of been a one or two point difference."
Freeman was visiting her brother in the hospital.
Even without Freeman, Central (1-1) placed first in seven events. Jean Maguire and Courtney Maguire led the way with two first-place finishes apiece. Jean was also a member of the victorious medley relay and 400 relay squads. Courtney was also on the medley relay which qualified for state with a time of 2:06.30. The squad also included Elizabeth Green and Laura Dombrowski.
Green placed first in the 100 backstroke.
Central will visit Fort Zumwalt South on Friday.
