POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Cape Central Tigers built an early lead and held off Poplar Bluff for an 8-5 victory Monday.
Cape Central (6-7) held a 6-1 lead after four innings, but Poplar Bluff scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to close the gap to 6-5.
The Tigers scored two insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Jason Chavez, the fourth Central pitcher, came on in the bottom of the seventh to strike out the side and save the victory.
Justin Welker (2-3), Cape Central's starting pitcher, picked up the win as he allowed two hits, struck out six and issued six walks in four innings.
John Thies and John Snider pitched the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
Snider paced the Tiger's 13-hit attack going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Mitch Craft and Rob Carr chipped in with two hits apiece.
The Central JV defeated Poplar Bluff 13-3 behind winning pitcher Jason Gibson.
Seth Hudson had three hits, while Aaron Dohogne and Chris Daniel collected two hits each.
Chaffee 19, Portageville 1
PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- The Red Devils (9-1) blistered the baseball in the five-inning romp over the Bulldogs.
Of its 18 total hits, Chaffee hammered four home runs.
Zac Horman (4-for-4), Jeremy Lynn (3-for-3), Travis Hanback (2-for-3) and Brent Thomason all went deep.
Winning pitcher G. P. Glueck (3-0) was effective on the mound and at the plate. Glueck pitched a one-hitter in four innings of work, while striking out five with no walks. He also had three hits.
Horman hurled a scoreless fifth inning to close out the win.
Oak Ridge 9, Marquand 8
OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Jeff Cowan's double in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home the tying and winning runs for the Blue Jays (2-3).
A single by Beau Morrison and a walk to Zack Ruesler preceded Cowan's game-winning hit.
Marquand's Steve Weinecke had drilled a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to put Marquand up 8-7.
Morrison picked up the win for Oak Ridge.
Perryville 9, Hillsboro 6
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Winning pitcher Jon Miesner helped himself with the bat, hitting a home run and driving in four runs in a Jefferson County Conference victory.
Miesner allowed seven hits, walked six and struck out two in going all seven innings.
He also went 3-for-3 at the plate as Perryville had nine hits overall. Mark Scholl added a two-run double and Jeremy Roth had a single and two RBIs.
Perryville (5-5, 4-3 conference) trailed 5-3 after two innings, but took the lead for good in a four-run third.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Pius X 2, Notre Dame 1
FESTUS, Mo. -- St. Pius X scored a goal off a penalty kick with 30 seconds to go in regulation to edge the Lady Bulldogs (7-4-1).
St. Pius' Jamie Derleth tallied on a header just in front of the Notre Dame goal after a push foul had given the Lady Lancers a direct kick from 35 yards out.
Derleth had scored earlier in the second half to break a scoreless tie.
Notre Dame came back to knot the score at 1-1 with eight minutes left on a goal by Kristen Boos off an assist from Cyndi Cox.
Notre Dame's JV (5-2-2), with Toni Horrell in goal, shut out St. Pius 3-0.
Loreal Garner, Megan Holloway and Janet Glosemeyer netted goals for the Lady Bulldogs.
St. Vincent 6, Hillsboro 0
HILLSBORO, Mo. -- Caitlin Hoeh netted four goals as St. Vincent rolled to victory.
Beth Hennemann and Nicole Richardet added goals for St. Vincent (8-5-1).
Mindy Cattor had six saves to record her seventh shutout of the season.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Notre Dame 129, Pattonville 126, Clayton 74
CLAYTON, Mo. -- Notre Dame boasted six first-place finishes as it nipped Pattonville by three points in a triangular meet at the Clayton Community Center.
Lindsay Kuper led Notre Dame (4-2) with first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- The Lady Red Devils parlayed a five-run third inning and a seven-run fourth into a mercy-run rule win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Chaffee (5-0) banged 15 hits, led by Courtney Loucks and Jennifer Vandeven with three each. Kate Pfefferkorn and Casey Graviett had two apiece.
Vandeven went the five-inning distance to pick up the win. She tossed a one-hitter, struck out seven and walked seven.
