In a battle of Cape Girardeau high school softball rivals, Central's Lady Tigers knocked off Notre Dame's Lady Bulldogs 8-3 Thursday afternoon at Notre Dame. In a battle of Cape Girardeau high school softball rivals, Central's Lady Tigers knocked off Notre Dame's Lady Bulldogs 8-3 Thursday afternoon at Notre Dame.

Central improved to 8-6 while Notre Dame fell to 5-6.

The Lady Tigers had 13 hits, led by Amber Voerg and Ashley Foutch with three each and Trisha Klipfel with two. Foutch belted a home run and drove in four runs while Voerg had two RBIs.

Notre Dame finished with five hits, no player getting more than one.

Amy Girod was the winning pitcher as she worked into the seventh inning, striking out seven and walking five. Casi Gross finished up in the seventh.

Ramona Blankenship suffered the loss as she hurled all seven innings.

Central led just 5-3 after six innings but Foutch hit a three-run homer in the seventh to break things open.

The Lady Tigers won the JV game 8-2.

Perryville 9, Windsor 6

PERRYVILLE -- Perryville won its second game in as many days by knocking off Windsor.

The Lady Pirates (3-4) had nine hits. Brittany Weibrecht led the way with three hits, including a home run. She also scored two runs. Stacy Baer homered and tripled, good for two runs and three RBIs. Amanda Nuyt added two hits.

Megan Narrow pitched all seven innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Perryville's JV romped 15-5. Amanda Roth was the winning hurler.

BOYS SOCCER

Notre Dame 8, Sikeston 0

SIKESTON -- Seven players scored goals as Notre Dame improved to 4-1.

Chris Dirnberger had two goals while Andy Arnzen, Nick Kapfer, Adam Obermiller, Matt Pobst, Bryan Glosemeyer and Wes Steele all tallied once.

Oliver Sanders led the way in assists with three and Steele added two. Goalie Michael Gosche earned the shutout.

The JV squads played to a 0-0 tie.

Jackson 1, Carbondale 1

JACKSON -- Jackson and Carbondale both scored second-half goals as they battled to a draw.

After Carbondale went ahead 1-0 about 10 minutes into the second half, Jackson (3-2-1) countered a short while later when Patrick Kohm scored on a header, with an assist from Jonathan Coleman.

The JV match also ended in a 1-1 tie. Matt Buttry scored for Jackson.

VOLLEYBALL

Ste. Genevieve 15-15

St. Vincent 9-9

STE. GENEVIEVE -- St. Vincent fell to 1-2 as Ste. Genevieve swept the Squaws.

Jessica Lakenan led St. Vincent with nine kills, six blocks and five service points. Danielle Sutterer added seven kills.

Puxico 15-11-15

Advance 11-15-3

ADVANCE -- Advance, starting its season later than most area squads, lost a hard-fought three-game match.

Emily Johnson paced the Lady Hornets with six kills, three blocks and 15 digs. Sheila Stubenrauch, Amber Bond and Heidi Delay all had four kills while Jennifer Phelps added 13 digs.

Puxico also won the JV match 15-11, 15-6.

Zalma 15-15

Marquand 9-8

MARQUAND -- Marquand fell to 0-4 as Zalma prevailed in straight games.

Marquand won the JV match 16-14, 10-15, 15-10.

GIRLS TENNIS

Cape Central 9, Carbondale (Ill.) 0

Cape Central improved to 3-0 in dual play this season with a shutout of Carbondale.

No Central player yielded more than four games to an opponent.

A matchup of two of the area's top players at No. 1 singles saw Fredericktown senior Erin Kinder slip past Jackson freshman Kim Anderson 8-6.
