The Cape Central Tigers went into Saturday’s matchup with Simeon Career Academy 19-0 and suffered a 70-57 loss at Vashon High School in St. Louis.

On the flip side of that matchup is another tough test on Wednesday evening when the Tigers host CBC.

“Our schedule is stacked for us to have to go through hard times and physicality and good teams,” Tigers coach Drew Church said on Jan. 13 after a win at Hazelwood Central. “That’s what we want.”

Following the win over Hazelwood Central the Tigers would pick up wins over NMCC, Jackson, and Poplar Bluff.

After Friday’s win over Poplar Bluff senior Cam Williams knew Simeon would present a test for the Tigers, and regardless of the outcome, it will prove beneficial down the stretch.

“I feel like it’s going to be a good game for us in the long run,” Williams said. “We just want to go up there and play as hard as we can.”

The 13-point loss for the Tigers, while being their first loss of the year, was an impressive performance considering the opponent.

Friday, Church said the biggest thing will be learning and improving from the game against Simeon.

“It’s a great opportunity for us,” Church said. “It’s an opportunity for us to play against one of the best in the country and see where we’re at. I think it’s going to be good for us going forward regardless of what happens.”

Now the Tigers have a couple of days of practice to tune up for Wednesday’s matchup with the Cadets.

“We’re going to take from (the Simeon) game what we need to improve on going forward,” Church said. “I think it will be good for us going forward.”

The Tigers (19-1) will battle with the Cadets (11-9) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Cape Central High School.
