CAPE CENTRAL RELAYS TO BE RUN SATURDAY

Cape Central's track athletes will have the opportunity to show off their abilities and new track Saturday in one of the oldest track invitationals in the area.

Central boys track coach Jerry Dement said that Central's male and female athletes should win several events in the 33rd annual Cape Central Relays.

"We just really have a solid boys team," Dement said. "We're solid in almost every event. We also have an excellent girls team. We have several kids who are undefeated in several events this season. This gives them a chance to perform at home."

Eleven teams will compete in the meet, including Sikeston, Poplar Bluff, Jackson, Hillsboro, Vianney High and North County from Missouri. Murphysboro, Cairo and Vienna will cross the river from Illinois and Dyersburg will make the trip from Tennessee.

Field events will begin at 10 a.m., while the races are slated to begin at 10:30. The event will be held at Central's new track which is located adjacent to the high school.

"We're excited about (having it at the new track)," Dement said. "It should be conducive to some very good performances. I just hope the weather cooperates."
