HEATH, Ky. -- The Cape Girardeau Central High baseball team won both its games during Saturday's Heath (Ky.) Showcase.
Central (9-8) defeated Riedland (Ky.) 9-4 and then routed Heath (Ky.) 10-1.
Justin Welker was the winning pitcher against Riedland, allowing four runs (two earned) and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Mark Wittenborn hurled a hitless 1 2/3 innings.
Travis Wissman had three of Central's nine hits while Dusty Barrows belted a three-run homer, his area-leading fourth home run.
Sophomore pitcher John Thies was the star against Heath, allowing six hits and no earned runs while striking out 11 in going the seven-inning distance.
Aaron Dohogne and Seth Hudson each had two of the Tigers' nine hits. Hudson delivered three RBIs.
