JACKSON -- Eighteen high school cross country teams competed in the Jackson Invitation Saturday.
The race was divided in four divisions, one for each class and the top 10 individuals in each group earned medals. The freshmen ran 1.9 miles, while sophomores through seniors ran 2.3 miles.
Kelly took first place in the sophomore boys group and Cape Central took top honors in the junior boys division.
On Kelly's first-place team, Adam Daughetee led the way with a 13:49, fifth-place finish. He was followed by Adam Lofton (13:55) in sixth place, Ashley Hahn (13:56) in eighth and Tyler Schlosser (15:49) in 25th.
On Central's first-place junior boys team, Mark Stone took second with a time of 12:55, followed by Ross Tilghman in seventh at 13:30, Justin Hawkins in eighth at 13:32 and Gabe Austin in 13th at 13:55.
Notre Dame's David Unterreiner took first place in the freshman boys division at 11:22 and Central's Kim Pancoast took first in the sophomore division at 15:33.
The following Jackson runners earned medals: Laura Unverferth (sophomore girls, sixth place, 16:19), Carol Koenig (sophomore girls, fourth place, 16:34), Josh Minson (sophomore boys, fourth place, 13:48), Julie Wunderlich (senior girls, fifth place, 15:50).
Cape Central's Lane Thomasson earned second place in the senior girls group at 15:23 and Notre Dame's Susan Judd took fourth in the junior girls division with a time of 16:28.

Notre Dame Softballfest
Dongola (Ill.) blanked Ste. Genevieve 8-0 in the championship game of the Notre Dame Softballfest Saturday.
Dongola advanced to the title game with an 8-2 victory Friday over Notre Dame in the opening round and a win over St. Pius Saturday in the semifinals. Ste. Genevieve advanced to the championship game with a victory over Park Hills in the semifinals.
St. Pius defeated Park Hills to capture third.
In the fifth-place game, Notre Dame (5-3) defeated Poplar Bluff 16-1 in four innings. Winning pitcher Ramona Blankenship allowed three hits. Notre Dame had just six hits but received 11 walks.
The blowout was the second of the day for Notre Dame, which blasted St. Vincent 15-1 behind the four-hit pitching of Amy Young.
St. Vincent recovered to defeat Sikeston in the seventh-place game.
